A timely contribution during the inquest into Imam Abdullah Haron’s death during an apartheid related incarceration, the installation was exhibited at the inaugural Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah. The topography of Cape Town and its alignment of Muslim graves to Mecca are transposed, memorialising Imam Haron’s funeral in 1969, attended by some 40 000 people carrying his coffin to the Mowbray Muslim Cemetery.
1000 koefiya hats are suspended in the installation rising from the ground to acknowlege the slope up towards Table Mountain from the cemetery. These terrains across time are captured and recorded physically and sonically, to give presence to erased narratives.
