Hashim Tarmahomed (b.1996, Johannesburg) is an architect, researcher and artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
His work is concerned with landscapes of the othered, and considers the margin as a space of collective agency and generation. His creative process often involves mapping these histories and geographies, and translating moments of intersection into meaningful spatial responses, using a layered methodology including drawing, writing, photographing, building, and collaging.
Hashim holds a Master of Architecture (Professional) from the University of the Witwatersrand and has practised at a number of architectural studios, including Wolff Architects, Craig McClenaghan Architecture, and Muhammed Mayet Architects + Urban Designers. He has also contributed to the academy, lecturing periodically in the architecture schools at the Universities of Pretoria and Cape Town. He is currently based at the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of the Witwatersrand.
